I'm going to try to post some gains in cleans and need advice on programming. In the past I have used them at sub-maximal loads mostly for conditioning. I have looked at Prilepin's table but don't know exactly how to apply it from week to week... (http://www.texaspowerscene.com/artic...prilephin.html).

Should I do something similar to 5/3/1 but using Prilepins table? i.e. week 1 use 65%x4x6, week two 75%x4-5x4 etc.

Basically looking to do full heavy cleans 1x per week and work assistance/technique 1x per week on a different day. Thanks for any advice.

Is there a way to lower the snatch push press without causing a hole in my neck?

I posted this question on Glenn's blog, but I think this is the more appropriate forum for it. The snatch push press exercise I'm doing comes from the beginner template listed in Greg's Olympic Weightlifting book.

Here's a video of my snatch push press - my first and last set of 5x5:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y62bTwwhF3g

I got a humongous welt on my upper neck which is slightly tender right now. I'd like to continue utilizing the BTN snatch push press as it is part of my program, and I see that a lot of lifters (in real life and on the net) perform this day in day out no problems. However the way I'm gripping it and lowering it seems to lead me to crash the bar on my neck. Is there a way of changing my initial setup so I don't chip away at my neck with this exercise?

Anyone that does this exercise feel free to chip in. I'm hoping this is a form thing that I can practice. I need to change this so that when big weights come in, I'm not gonna paralyze myself with the bar crashing down.

I saw the video exercise linked here http://www.cathletics.com/exercises/...?exerciseID=89, I can't seem to maintain the same upright posture as per the video.

Restoring gylcogen before protein postworkout?

Hey guys and gals,

A recent conversation with a colleague led to the suggestion that post-workout, your body will preferentially replenish gylcogen stores and as such, convert anything taken in into gylcogen first and foremost. This would provide the rationalle for a post workout strategy of carbs first followed some time later by protein.

Not sure I buy and I've yet to find any research to support; anybody have any links or thoughts on the matter?

Cheers,

Hey All,

I'm new to these forums and I think I'm going to start keeping a log on here once I start my new cycle next week. I just purchased the RTS Manual and I really liked the program he layed out. It's essentially the beginnings of block periodization. The RPE system allows one to autoregulate their training and it limits the length of the workout as well since in order to properly use RPE there needs to be a time limit on the work sets. I also do jiu-jitsu on average of three days a week.

Some training history is I've done Bill Starr's 5 X 5, Westside, 5/3/1 and my own templates.

Currents lifts
Low Bar Squat - 375
Deadlift - 400
Bench - 250
Press - 170
Power Clean - 200 (very estimated)
Clean - haven't done much work, Derek Simonds has helped with my form
Front Squat - 250, limiting factor is pressure on the neck

I attached it as a text file.

Thanks for any feedback and help.
