Submission Guidelines


The Performance Menu accepts unsolicited queries and article submissions on a broad range of topics. We publish exclusive, original material only. If you're unfamiliar with the type of material we publish, please read the publication before submitting.

Key points to keep in mind about our readership are:

1. They're intelligent
2. They're demanding
3. Many are professional coaches or trainers
4. They have senses of humor

Because of the large volume of queries and other correspondence we receive, we respond only when submissions or queries are accepted or potentially accepted for publication.

If your submissions do not conform to the following formatting rules, WE WILL NOT READ THEM.


Queries

Your email query should include an abstract of the proposed article, your full name, bio and contact information.


Article Submissions

Complete article submissions should be emailed as .doc or .rtf files. Files must include:

1. Title
2. Byline
3. Author bio
4. Article
5. Endnotes when appropriate (Chicago style)
6. Photo/Video placeholders and captions

Necessary photos or videos will be requested upon acceptance of articles for publication. It is the responsibility of the author to supply these by the appropriate deadline.
Formatting Rules

Sample Word Document

  • Use a SINGLE space after periods
  • Separate paragraphs with a single white space (double return)—no indentation.
  • Embed hyperlinks and remove underlines.
  • Make headings bold—no underlines.
  • Insert clear image or video placeholders and make sure if they’re associated with specific text to clarify. Example: [PHOTO – CLOSE-UP LOWER BACK ARCH]
  • DO NOT use MS Word's formatting features beyond the basics (e.g. bold, italics) to try to impress us—it will only upset us.
